I almost missed mentioning Software Freedom Day that was held at Orchard Road on September 10th. I think the mainstream media missed it too...sigh.
Anyways, seems like the Software Freedom Day was a riot! We had a tux that was dawdling among kids, screechy delirious teenages, respectful grandmothers and grandfathers.

Deepak S and Deepak J were volunteering by evangelising Ubuntu, the new mac OS of the Free Software World, and distributing free copies of the same.
Next year, we better get some HOT cheerleaders to distribute and propogate the Free Software Movement ;-)

@antrix: I passed them to George, jipi and gang. But, it doesn't look like they have uploaded it to LUGS website. *sigh*
I have removed it from my ftp now. Can show it to you the next time we meet-up. :) remind me to get my laptop.

Mito: Yeah, perhaps we should go on a 'sight seeing' mission for the cause of Free Software ;)
Antrix: Yup, he is almost hitting the limit in Flickr and gave me the pics. I have conviniently downloaded to my comp at home and deleted the mail =(
Ashwin: Sorry dear :-(

It should be clarified that we were distributing Ubunutu Linux Live CDs. Somehow the byline 'Mac OS of the free world' does not sound accurate.

@ashwin: you really need to buy one of those new fangled all-media-playing usb-on-the-go type devices to team up with your SLR. The Archos PMA 430 perhaps?
@divya, mito: Please leave the 'sight seeing' to us!
On second thoughts, please continue with the 'sight seeing' plans.

@antrix: you don't understand do ya? divya & mito will prove to be very good filters. I think of girls whom I hang out with as having a very good eye for spotting out the right kind of birds (non-penguin). :-D
haha. the Archos!!! more like iPod color with the direct-USB to camera adaptor. :)
@divya: it is wokay... :) I am not exactly qualified to be an evangelist. hehe :-D

Ashwin, Antrix: Er...HOT cheerleaders can be men too ;-) So guys, do your own 'sight seeing'. Free Software Foundation will not beundermined by gender inequality ;-)
Ashwin, right kind of birds :P

Wasnt Ubuntu a derivative of DEbian?
A friend of mine (a certified linux geek), after using Ubuntu for a couple of months, gave up. Not very user friendly and very frustrating, apparently?

@sat: you got to be kidding me. your friend either did not know what he was doing or he has been feeding you wrong information. A conspiracy to keep you away from Linux. :)
Ubuntu is one of the most user-friendly distros out there. Hell, it installed on my Mac with just selecting the default settings. No tweaking required. :-D
Yes, it is based on Debian. But, as with all remakes (I give analogy to remake-d Hindi movies), the packaging is different. :P

Sat: Yup, but no it doesnt suck. I have seen it and UI wise it is very good! =D And ofcourse the installation is a breeze (mebbe thts why one of its versions was called 'breezy' =D).
Try it out and let your friend know how mistaken he is =D

Oh no. He knows his way around Linux, Ashwin. Believe me.
He actually set up debian for me.
It wasnt about the UI. And UI isnt everything. As they say, Linux isnt made for the users.
(Try me. I havent found out how to setup 5.1 sound in my linux install at all)
I forgot what was frustrating him that much.

But just incase you decided to work with some dedicated folks on the same team on planned cycles with business goals.... and exceed them regularly - do feel free to send me an email :)
You probably think I am kidding. I am not.
We do need excellent people at Microsoft and the more the know our competition the better :))
