Update: I had given a wrong example of the cite element. It is corrected now.
There are several ways to quote/emphasise using HTML, you can use the <q>, <blockquote>, <cite>, <em>, <strong>, <pre>, <code> and there are subscripts <sub> and superscripts <sup>.
